TheraSim CPM has been deployed in Africa, India and Russia to private/public healthcare organizations, Universities delivering capacity building, care & treatment services for HIV, TB & other infectious and chronic diseases.

TheraSim CPM meets a pressing need to improve clinical quality in these developing managed care settings by establishing adequate performance levels, ensuring that the sites follow published guidelines and gathering behavioral metrics for quality assurance, training and research.

Physician from over 180 countries have used the TheraSim clinical simulator to further their skill in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic and infectious diseases.

These graphs illustrate the ability of TheraSim CPM to measure and improve the clinical quality and performance of participating clinicians. This data consisted of a cohort of 170 physicians from 60 CDC supported hospitals managing over 20,000 patients with HIV/AIDS in East Africa. Each of the red dots in the graphs instead a clinical interaction between a physician and a simulated patient. The patient simulations were drawn from patients′ charts that are typical of the ranges of cases they would typically face. Over 2000 simulations were conducted. The distance the red dot is from the center indicates the cumulate errors that occurred in the simulation. Dots that are within the green bull′s-eye indicate technical errors that would not adversely impact patient outcomes. The further the dot is from the center, the more severe the deviation from treatment guidelines and/or cumulative errors such as drug interactions, misdiagnosis or dosing errors.

The left graph shows the baseline performance of the cohort at installation of TheraSim CPM. After working with TheraSim Health Tracks and its e-mentoring system for 5 months, the cohort was measured again using different simulations that test the same competencies. That performance and the dramatic improvement it represents are shown on the right.

The Proof is in the Research

Research suggests that TheraSim CPM yields improved Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALY)

The outcomes data from TheraSim deployments in Africa in support of the massive CDC scale up of HIV therapy have shown that TheraSim CPM can have a profound impact on the quality of care. Data from these deployments showing that TheraSim CPM can move the performance of physicians closer to evidence based standards has been published multiple scientific organizations.

The quality of care for tens of thousands of patients has been impacted by the performance advancing effects of TheraSim CPM. A recent study, conducted by TheraSim for the non-profit organization The Acumen Fund, has shown that small investments in TheraSim CPM could yield huge

dividends in terms of Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALY) for patients being treated by physicians using the TheraSim CPM system. QALY is a common metric used to measure the impact of health interventions on human life by showing the additional high quality years (not years spent in a coma or on a respirator) added to patient lives through the use of the intervention. By improving the treatment behavior of clinicians delivering ART care, patient stand to benefit from reduced adverse events, lower rates of resistance and therefore longer and more productive lives.

TheraSim Global Health Certificate Program

TheraSim Health Track simulation courses are designed with notable experts in the field and certificates of completion are awarded to course graduates. In countries where it is offered, these courses carry CE (continuing education) accreditation. In the photo above, Dr. John Bartlett of the John’s Hopkins AIDS Service and TheraSim CEO, David Hadden proudly award one of many certificates to Ethiopian physicians that complete the program.
